41st SOUSCC - McMaster University - March 30th, 2013

Attention 59-410 Students: Please consider making a presentation of your research at the upcoming SOUSCC on Mar. 30, 2013.

41st SOUSCC - McMaster University - March 30th, 2013

The 41st annual Southern Ontario Undergraduate Student Chemistry Conference (SOUSCC) will be hosted by the Department of Chemistry and Chemical Biology at McMaster University on March 30th, 2013. This conference represents an outstanding opportunity for undergraduate students to present and showcase their research in the chemical sciences to colleagues, peers, and chemical professionals from both academia and industry. As you know, research is an important component of undergraduate education, and we are delighted to host SOUSCC this year, providing an opportunity to learn about and celebrate the research achievements of Ontario's undergraduate chemistry students.

This event is open to undergraduate students conducting research in chemistry related disciplines in from across Ontario. Students are able to participate in this event by giving either oral or poster presentations about the exciting undergraduate research work that they have carried out during any part of their studies (senior theses, summer projects, co-op terms, etc.). For many students, SOUSCC offers the first opportunity to participate in a real conference, and provides a valuable experience in the development of Ontario's future chemistry professionals. The conference also provides a fantastic venue at which to exchange ideas, network with professors and scientists from industry, as well as learn about career and educational options after obtaining an undergraduate degree. For more information, we have created a web page for this conference with numerous details about SOUSCC, the day's schedule, registration forms, abstract submission information, and travel/accommodations. The web page can be found at http://souscc.mcmaster.ca (note that some parts are still under construction).

The conference registration fee will be kept at the traditionally low level of $40 for presenters, and $50 for non-presenters. This fee will cover coffee breaks, lunch, and an evening banquet. There will be cash prizes given to the top oral and poster presenters, as well as door prizes drawn at the banquet.

We sincerely hope that you will encourage your undergraduate students to participate in this event, and we look forward to hosting you at McMaster on March 30th. We would also appreciate it if you would kindly forward this message to your undergraduate students, student advisors, Chemistry Club members, and colleagues. In the coming weeks, we will be sending out more information about the conference, registration, and other logistics. In the meantime, if you have any questions, please feel free to contact us at souscc@mcmaster.ca.

Sincerely,
Alex Adronov and the SOUSCC Planning Committee
